The Virtual “Roscommon” Canoe Classic will still be run June 1-7. You can only qualify for prizes at the physical race, or by making a virtual submission, but not both. We encourage members to participate as they are comfortable.
C2 and C1 Races
Wallace Park, Roscommon, Michigan
Please park and stage in the old Hiawatha Canoe Livery parking lot, NOT IN FRONT OF OR ON THE SIDE STREET OF THE CHURCH, you can access the river via the pond.
2020 Roscommon Canoe Classic Updated
C2 Race starts at 10am, Day of registration opens at 8:30.
Heats will be determined following preregistration and day of registration (day of registration participants will automatically be put in the last heat). Heats of 5 C2’s will start straight line style in the water in front of Wallace Park (No Run Start). Heats will start every 5 minutes with amateur class (E2) going in the last heat.
Expert Class will paddle down to Deerheart Valley Rd and preform a clockwise buoy turn and paddle back up river to Wallace Park.
Amateur Class (E2) will paddle down to Steckert Bridge, preform a clockwise buoy turn and paddle back up river to Wallace Park.
Following the race there will be no award ceremony. Paddlers can pick up their winnings while checking in for C1 the on Sunday, June 7th.
C1 Race Starts at 10am. Day of registration opens at 8:30.
Paddler order will be predetermined by preregistration (day of registration participants will automatically be put last). Paddlers will go off from Wallace Park every 10 seconds. Paddle down to Steckert Bridge and perform a clock wise buoy turn and continue paddling back up river to Wallace Park.
Following the race there will be no award ceremony. Paddlers will be messaged and/or emailed about how to pick up or receive their winnings.
**We are working with the DNR and the Village of Roscommon to make sure that the social distancing guidelines for Covid-19 are followed. Spectators please note that you will not be allowed in the staging area or timing area.**
***MCRA Race Rules are in effect! THAT MEANS ALL BOATS (C1 or C2) MUST ADHERE TO THE MCRA NUMBERING RULES AND GUIDELINES OR TEAMS/INDIVIDUALS WILL BE PUNISHED WITH A TIMING PENALTY***
In place of the race in Roscommon the First Virtual Event of 2020! will take place Monday June 1 – Sunday June 7.
First Virtual Event of 2020!
Paddle a up-and-down, or down-and-up section of river starting and finishing in the same spot, totaling in at least 9 miles.
Prizes: Value of approximately $500- will be drawn from the list of participants, and change for each virtual race. Specific prizes for this week will be confirmed before the virtual race begins.

1. Anyone is welcome to participate, but you must be an MCRA member to qualify for prizes.
2. Events can take place anywhere, as long as they meet the course requirements for completion. You can do this alone, with someone in your household, or in any socially distanced manner you prefer.
3. Submit your results with either a screenshot from Strava, Garmin Connect, or similar on the event page- it must have the date, a distance/time measurement, and a “course map.” If you do not use Strava or Garmin Connect, please send a message to the Michigan Canoe Racing Association and we will do our best to figure it out. This being said, using one of the tracking apps will make for the smoothest processing. If you don’t use Facebook, contact Rebecca, or Austin directly from the contact list on the MCRA website, and we will process your submission.
4. All results must be received by 6/7/2020 at 11:59 PM. Winners will be announced the following week.
